The City of New Orleans Reinstates Mask Mandate for all Indoor Public Spaces
(as of 2/12/22)

*Proof of vaccination or a negative antigen or PCR COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before entry may be required to enter indoor dining/entertainment spaces in the city.  Please confirm with your venue if you are making dining reservations.

*(per the Westin Canal Place Hotel) masks WILL NOT be required once attendees enter conference sessions – they kindly ask that you mask up in their public spaces.

Mask and Vaccine Mandate Decision from the Supreme Court

Yesterday the United States Supreme Court issued its decision on the OSHA Vaccine and Mask Mandate / Emergency Temporary Standard. They have put the stay back in place, ruling against the administration and OSHA.  

PMPA promptly provided this information to our shops via the CEO, HR and Corporate Listserves. You can read the Court’s decision here.

PMPA member, Michael Tamasi, President of AccuRounds (Avon, MA) was featured in US News this week regarding the latest obstacle in workforce.  As Omicron spreads, employees have to call off because of infection or exposure forcing shops to come up with creative scheduling to get the jobs completed.

Manufacturing Positivity

Manufacturing Expansion Slows (but Continues!) In December
Chad Moutray at NAM reports that “The ISM Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index declined from 61.1 in November to 58.7 in December, expanding at the slowest pace since last January. Even with some easing, new orders and production ended the year with solid growth, and hiring rose at the fastest rate since April. Measures of delivery times and cost pressures continued to reflect a challenging environment but have pulled back from recent records.”
 
Manufacturing New Orders
US Census Bureau Reported that New orders for manufactured goods in November increased $8.4 billion or 1.6 percent to $531.8 billion, up eighteen of the last nineteen months. This followed a 1.2 percent October increase. Shipments, also up eighteen of the last nineteen months, increased $3.5 billion or 0.7 percent to $527.0 billion. This followed a 2.0 percent October increase. Unfilled orders, up ten consecutive months, increased $9.1 billion or 0.7 percent to $1,260.1 billion. This followed a 0.3 percent October increase. The unfilled orders-to-shipments ratio was 6.78, up from 6.77 in October. Inventories, up seventeen of the last eighteen months, increased $5.3 billion or 0.7 percent to $770.0 billion. This followed a 0.9 percent October increase. The inventories-to-shipments ratio was 1.46, unchanged from October. Link: (click on Manufacturers Orders)

Trade Statistics- Goods Exports
According to the US Census Bureau and the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, Average exports of Goods Increased $3.7 billion to $218.3 Billion in November. November Exports were $224.2 billion, up $0.4 billion from October report. Year to Date, Exports increased $354.4 Billion or 18.2 percent. Never the less, The goods trade deficit soared to a record $98.99 billion in November, Nevertheless year to date the goods and services deficit increased $174.6 billion, or 28.6 percent, from the same period in 2020. Exports increased $354.4 billion or 18.2 percent. Imports increased $529.0 billion or 20.7 percent. Link: (click on Manufacturers’ Goods)
